Hot topic in America
The number of overweight people in America has tripled in the last 20 years. In your opinion, what creative things can adults and kids do to change this increasing problem?
Most people wouldn’t put exercising high on their list of favorites things to do. Hanging out with friends or the computer is much more fun. But I think it’s because people consider exercise to be a tedious chore, like mopping the floor or doing the laundry. Well, unless you want to wear dirty clothes, you do it—wash, dry, fold, put away. Tedious. But what if doing your laundry was fun? You actually liked it? Then you’d do it more often, right?
Well, find a way to exercise that you LOVE! Okay, here’s an example: You might think I’m crazy but I’ve never been to a fitness gym. Never. Instead I dance. I go to a dance room with other girls and we stretch, leap, pirouette, and perform five minute routines. I get a great workout! And I don’t count calories. I worked up a sweat and my body feels terrific for all the movement. If I need a break from dance, I take one, but I always go back because I love to dance!
Make money doing good
Corporations make BIG money from advertising and selling junk food. It’s called supply and demand. Kids demand it, companies supply it. How do you think we can create a demand for healthier foods?

In the Junk Food War, the battle is between Big Mean Companies—BMCs (sellers) and us—Consumers (buyers). I think the question is about “motivation.” Who’s got more? If Consumers have more motivation to eat healthy then they won’t buy the junk food. But if Consumers can’t control their habits to buy, buy, buy, and the BMCs advertise and entice them with delicious fattening food, then BMCs have more motivation to sell.
The best thing Consumers can do to stop this Junk Food War is to hit the BMCs where it hurts—in their pockets. If people pull way back on buying junk food, then BMCs lose revenue and make no profit. They’ll have to change their strategy. When BMCs see a stronger demand for healthier foods, the war will take a turn.
All in all, Consumers must NOT want the BMCs to win and keep getting richer. I mean, doesn’t it make you mad that they’re winning the war because they are more motivated to get rich? All you need to do is DO WHAT’S RIGHT. Eat healthier, feel good, and then you will be the winner! Oh, and use your money to go on vacation…!
If you were an adult
Do you think kids are spoiled today with all the electronics and entertainment? Is that why kids are heavier and don’t get as active?
People think that electronics keep kids away from exercising. But I think the electronics themselves aren’t the problems—it’s the notion that electronics are the ONLY ways to have fun! Kids need reminding that there are other ways to have a fun day. Electronics are fine, but don’t forget to mix in a few games of tag and hide and go see. Electronics aren’t making kids heavier, it’s the IDEA that playing video games and watching TV are the only ways to have a good time.
